Star Trek Alternate Title Intro

Friday, July 6th, 2012

I found this delightful animation a few weeks back by the Quintek Group. It’s a brilliant recreation of the original opening for Star Trek. I think it really captures the essence and style of the show even all these years later.

These “Playground Heroes” or “Superhero Kids” by Andy Fairhurst have gotten a lot of attention lately. They are simple but brilliant. I fell in love with them at first sight. If you wish to see more of his work, check out his gallery at deviantART.

Paintings by A. Andrew Gonzalez

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011

I stumbled upon the most amazing paintings yesterday. At first I thought they were sculptures or carvings but they are airbrushed acrylics on panel or canvas. These beauties are the work of A. Andrew Gonzalez. Even more remarkable, Gonzalez has no formal art education but was raised in a creative family and is largely self-taught. His style is exquisite and and very distinctive. Influenced by idealism in the mystical, visionary and esoteric traditions, his forms, values and highlighting are created by lifting pigment with an abrasive eraser followed by the application of transparent layers of pigment. The result is pure eye candy and I can stare at these all day savoring every little detail. Visit his website at sublimatrix.com if you find yourself craving more.

A lot has been going on in my life the past few months, but enough about me. I’ve got a new art post for you today. Check out these amazing artworks by Carne Griffiths. Carne sketches on paper with graphite and calligraphy ink and then manipulates the sketch with liquids – usually tea or brandy. He works mostly with human and floral forms. Check out more of his work on his website at www.carnegriffiths.com. He has several prints for sale there as well.

Illustrations by Andreas Zafiratos

Thursday, May 19th, 2011

Hello friends. Today the cool is back with some illustrations by Andreas Zafiratos aka albino-Z. Andreas hails from Greece and studied architecture at the National Technical University of Athens. I’ve complied some illustrations mostly from his “Nightmares in Rust” series. I love the juxtaposition of light and shadow, the ordinary and the horrific, the mundane and the unimaginable. All that and they’re just plain cool. Check them out.
