Rouleaux Art by Anastassia Elias

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

I always feel a little sad every time I discard an empty toilet paper roll. Art class was always one of my favorites as a child and there were so many fun things you could do with those. Apparently French painter/artist Anastassia Elias feels the same way. She’s transformed those discarded rolls into a marvelous collection of beautiful little scenes! She uses manicure scissors to cut shapes from sheets of paper the same color as the roll, giving the illusion that the paper figures are part of the roll. She then uses tweezers to manipulate and position the shapes. She must have steady hands and a lot of patience! I’m glad someone finally had the inspiration to rescue these sad discarded rolls and transform them into little treasures.

Fantasy Art by Wangli Feimo

Monday, February 7th, 2011

No one seems to know much about Wangli (or Wang Li) Feimo other than that she is from China and her art is pretty fantastic. It kind of reminds me of the Dynasty Warriors video game series by Koei which, thanks to the fact I watched the movie Red Cliff this weekend, I finally understand what the heck was going on in those games. It was a great movie and this is some pretty great fantasy art. Enough said.

Illustrations by Nanami Cowdroy

Friday, January 14th, 2011

Today I’m checking out the artistic talents of Nanami Cowdroy. Nanami combines ink, pen & pencil, water color and spray paint on paper, with some digital elements into a visual style uniquely her own. She has also conveniently included a bio on her website which I could copy and past here, but you guys are clever enough to follow a link and check it out yourself. Her art has even been made into jewelry so if you’re looking for a unique artistic gift for someone, you should shop here. I always love stumbling upon new and unique artistic styles. Maybe someday I’ll even have one of my own!

Illustrations by Charlie Bowater

Thursday, January 6th, 2011

I stumbled upon illustrations by the very talented Charlie Bowater this week. Not only is Charlie a talented sketch artist but her Photoshop skills are impressive as well. I’ve included mostly just sketches in this post but you should check out more of her work in her Deviant Art gallery. I’m certain you’ll be as impressed by her talents as I am! I would love to be able to draw half this good. Just looking at these is inspiring me to get out sketch book and try to learn.

Thought of You – Ryan Woodward

Monday, December 20th, 2010

I just stumbled upon this animation at Vimeo and fell in love with it. This little treasure was animated by Ryan Woodward with music by The Weepies. The minute I started watching I knew I had to post it to my blog. I also knew I had to hop over to iTunes and buy the album. Hope you like it!

Illustrations by Fiduciose (Skan Srisuwan)

Wednesday, December 15th, 2010

Today I’m featuring the fantastic designs of Thai artist Skan Srisuwan (aka Fiduciose). A graduate of Silpakorn University, Skan is mostly known for blending human forms and machines into intricate, metallic creations. Skan co-founded and is currently Creative Director at Studio Hive where he focuses on providing clients with comics production, concepts, illustrations, I.P. creation, as well as developing internal projects. His style is certainly distinctive and not one you’ll easily mistake. Enjoy!

Digital Matte Artist Головченко Алексей

Friday, November 19th, 2010

I stumbled upon the matte painting collection of Alex Golovchenko this week. He’s done some truly fantastic work. Alex is currently Senior Designer at Inter TV Channel, the Ukrainian national broadcaster. Matte Painting is another one of those amazing skill sets I would love to develop some day if I wasn’t so busy writing sub-par PHP code. Golovchenko’s work is vividly imaginative and his use of color and lighting is delightful. Enjoy!
