Customize Your WordPress Comments

July 9th, 2010

WordPressWordPress is pretty amazing. I’ve only been using it for a few months now and the more I learn about it, the more I love it. I used the Starkers Theme by Elliot Jay Stocks as a starting point for this template. It’s basically just a stripped down blank slate theme with all style elements removed. It surprisingly didn’t take much work to insert my design into the template. Of course I’ve only made some of the most basic template adjustments – custom header and footer and styles. I shouldn’t have been surprised to find out when I first noticed how the comments were displayed, they look pretty crappy. I started digging around to see what customization options I had. Turns out your customization options are unlimited!

Слот – Мертвые Звезды

July 1st, 2010

Мёртвые звёзды (Dead Stars) music video by Слот (Slot).

Hybrid – Break My Soul (Music Video)

June 22nd, 2010

I just discovered Hybrid today on Vimeo. Great song and beautiful video. Goes to show that if you stay alive day after day you just might find something from time to time to make it worth while. I just downloaded their latest album “Disappear Here” from iTunes. Can’t wait to listen to the rest of it. Enjoy.

The Illustrations of Mercer Mayer

June 21st, 2010

I have many fond memories of the books I read as a child and early teen. I’ve been trying to track some of them down to read them again and share them with my nephews. One of my favorite series was “The Great Brain” books by John D. Fitzgerald. I was especially fond of the illustrations in the book done by Mercer Mayer. While learning more about Mayer and his work, I’ve discovered several other childhood favorites of mine. Mayer is both a writer and illustrator and has published over 300 books. He is probably best known for his “Little Critter” and “Little Monster” series of books. My favorites are the illustrations he created for fairy tales and classic stories re-telling. Here are some samples from “Beauty and the Beast”, “East of the Sun & West of the Moon”, and “Favorite Tales from Grimm”. You can order prints of his work from his website at mercermayer.com.

“Waiting” – My Robot Friend

June 17th, 2010

I ran across this music video at vimeo.com the other day and fell in love with it. I couldn’t resist posting it here to keep it handy. Hope you enjoy it as well. It’s the official music video for the acoustic version of “Waiting” by My Robot Friend (featuring Jay Kauffman). Directed by Liam Stevens of MakeMake Studio, this stop motion animation is made entirely of pencil & cut paper and took just over three months to complete. Production and technical assistance; Chris Tozer.

FX’s Justified 3D Projection Promo

June 3rd, 2010

I’ve been watching FX’s new show “Justified” based on an Elmore Leonard character over the last few weeks. The folks over at onesize.nl were asked to direct, supervise, and post-produce the promo in cooperation with the crew at FX. Their skill with 3D camera projection is truly impressive.
